What!

And oven baked doughnut recipe with yeast, are you kidding me?

What is wrong with the deep fried ones?

This baked doughnut recipe is a good and healthy alternative for the classic fried donuts! Hey, don’t get me wrong here.

I love those as well.

With the chocolate and sprinkles and everything.

I recently wrote an article about carbs and why they are so delicious but not exactly the healthiest food to eat, an eye opener!

Fried vs. Oven Baked

Yes, do like the classic doughnuts from time to time.

Especially when I am in town doing some shopping and I crave a sweet bite with my afternoon cup of coffee.

However I don’t have a deep fat fryer in my kitchen anymore. Because I tossed out that oily mess a couple of years ago while I was in the process of moving to the place where I live now.

Bye bye calories.

No, I bought a Philips air fryer to replace that deep fat fryer: healthy fries and such!

Deep Fat Fryer vs. Air Fryer

And that is also why I need to find another way to make doughnuts now.

Someone once asked me if they could bake these doughnuts from scratch below in an air fryer.

Honestly, I haven’t tried that. But I know that people bake lots of treats in air fryers now so I would definitely give it a try next time!

I can hear you ask: what if you want fries with that steak dinner?

You are Belgian!

And you are right. But here’s how we do steak and fries dinners: we go pick up a portion of freshly fried Belgian fries at the fries shack just around the corner.

Easy!

Best Oven Baked Doughnut Recipe with Yeast

Have you baked with yeast before?

It is pretty easy actually. If you follow the recipe by the book, then you will definitely get those fluffy and light baked doughnuts in the end.

These donuts below are simply baked in the oven.

No oil and no fuss either. And no blown-up stomachs or regrets afterwards!

I love donuts to bits.

You can chill the doughy donuts in the fridge overnight (cover them with cling film) and then bake them off in a hot oven in the morning for breakfast.

Make Ahead Breakfast

Baking these doughnuts only takes about 8 minutes.

So what do you think about a couple of freshly oven baked doughnuts and a few cups of coffee… Anyone care to join me?

Someone asked me if you can bake these donuts in an airfryer.

Well I am not entirely sure, I have never tried it before. I once saw a food blogger bake a cake in an airfryer and it looked just amazing.

So perhaps I should give it a try next time I make my oven baked doughnut recipe again.

Where do donuts come from?

Donuts are believed to have originated in North America, with the earliest known recipe found in a cookbook published in 1803.

However, some sources suggest that theyoriginated in Europe, andbrought to the United States in the early 19th centurywhen Dutch settlers in the United States made a sweetened doughnut-like cake known as an olykoek (a Dutch word meaning “oil cake”). The olykoek were round cakes of sweetened dough deep-fried in pork fat.

The exact inventor of the donut is unknown, however it isbelieved that a Dutch baker from the early 19th century, Hanson Gregory, was the first to put a hole in the center of a donut, creating the modernday form of the pastry.

Are oven baked doughnuts healthier than deep fried donuts?

Yes,my ovenbaked doughnut recipeisa lot healthier than deep fried donuts, as they contain less fat and calories.

Additionally, ovenbaked donuts are usually made witha bunch of healthier ingredients, such as whole wheat flour and natural sweeteners.

How many calories does one deep fried donut have?

A single deep fried donut typically contains around 240 to 340 calories.

Onesingle oven baked donut typically has around 100 to150 calories.

But why is that exactly?

Because deep frying adds more calories to food because the food is cooked in oil, which is a highcalorie substance. The oil penetrates the food, adding more fat and calories.

Depending on what topping you add, that calorie count will go up even more. Chocolate frosting is typically the donut topping with the most calories.
