Best Burrata Salad
By far, my burrata salad recipe is my favorite appetizer of all time, but it's also one of my favorite side dishes! I make this dish as often as I can for my family, and love serving it for parties. It's so delicious!
Burrata salad is easy-to-make and uses just a handful of ingredients. The burrata cheese itself is perfectly creamy, and pairs so well with the zesty lemon, salty prosciutto and sharp arugula.
What's better than a delicious salad side dish you can have ready in just a few minutes? This dish is amazing for serving alongside dinners like eggplant parmesan or juicy roast chicken! Add more lettuce as you please, or even tomato for a burrata tomato salad.
FAQs
What is burrata?
Burrata is an cow milk cheese made from mozzarella and cream. The outside of this Italian cheese has a skin reminiscent of mozzarella, while the inside is soft and creamy.
What is burrata salad made of?
Burrata salad uses layers of arugula, prosciutto, burrata cheese, olive oil, lemon juice, sea salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and parmesan cheese. You can also add tomato.
Do you eat the skin on burrata?
You do eat the skin on burrata cheese. It is made from mozzarella, and is delicious!
How do you store leftover burrata?
Burrata is a cheese best eaten as soon as you open it, but if you are not going to use it all at once, the best way to store it is to add the liquid from the packaging and the cheese to an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for 1-2 days at most.
Is burrata salad gluten-free?
Burrata salad is completely gluten-free!
How to Eat Burrata
To enjoy burrata cheese at its best, serve it at room temperature. Remove it from the refrigerator 30 minutes before serving. Burrata is best when eaten fresh, so do not buy it too far ahead of time. I recommend eating it the same day you buy it, as this will give you the best taste.
This is a magical cheese that truly tastes delicious on its own and when paired with a variety of recipes. Slice it open with a knife and fork, then drizzle it with sea salt and olive oil, and enjoy!
My favorite way to enjoy it is with salad - which is where this burrata salad recipe comes from. Paired with a lemon olive oil dressing, arugula, parmesan, and prosciutto, you really cannot go wrong.
Burrata pizza is another fantastic option for serving this cheese.
How to Make Burrata Salad
- Layer arugula on a serving plate or platter.
- Rest ribbons of prosciutto on top of the arugula.
- Add burrata cheese to the plate.
- Drizzle with olive oil. Squeeze half a lemon over top, then sprinkle with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
- Add shaved parmesan, and your burrata salad recipe is ready to serve!
If you want, you can also add tomato to the dish. Make sure to get a good drizzling of olive oil and seasoning over the tomato, too!
How to Serve Burrata Salad
You can serve burrata salad exactly according to the instructions as a side dish or appetizer, or add it to a deep salad bowl with additional veggies.
I like adding in tomatoes and olives, then tearing off pieces of burrata to add to the salad instead of serving it whole. Dice the prosciutto, and top with shaved parmesan. Olive oil, lemon juice, fresh ground pepper and Maldon salt make the perfect lemon olive oil dressing for the salad.
You can also make this into a burrata caprese tomato salad by making a traditional caprese salad, and simply using burrata cheese instead of mozzarella.
Recipe Tips
- Use the freshest burrata cheese possible.
- Simple seasoning works best. I use freshly ground black pepper, Maldon sea salt, fresh lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil. It is absolute perfection!
- Fresh, crisp arugula works best for making burrata salad.
Bring your burrata to room temperature for best results. Burrata should always be served room temperature.
